A tank in Hall of Heroes (farming)
I have been having a hard time finding a group that will take a tank (W/R) into the Hall of Heroes. It's all about B/P this and Orders that . All I want to do is find Victo's Battle axe (and no, I don't want to just buy it off someone). No one seems to want to take a tank into the HofH...why? I thought tanks were an essential part of any balanced grp. And is there any way that I can coerce people into taking me into their grp?
thanx, OFG |

hey! let rangers enjoy the only High end farming place where they are welcome in a team!
why nobody takes you? cuz tanks are useless in a BP group and are the first to accumulate 60 dp we have 5 pets and bone horrors to tank, no place for a Warior, cuz we kik ass so much better then a balanced group. or join a BALANCED group, which includes Tank, Eles, SS, Monks and somethin else (i never go in balanced groups so im not sure of the exact build), or you can join as a healer into a BP group. use SEARCH to find THE build for Tombs tank oh yeah....you have 4 character slots for a good reason. In this case, tanks are all but useless. No Im not saying that you cant the tombs with a tank Im just saying that so far the most efficient way to clear out the area is with a B/P group. In these groups the pets and minions act like the tanks. There are a lot more little tanks and they take up room, so they body block more effectively. There are some balanced groups that go in with a tank or two, but for the most part its just easier with B/P. Hope that helped with your question.

Amen my friend!!!! I'm just afraid that Assassins will be neglected in Factions the same way Rangers were in prophecies. |

i'd be surprised..... assasin seemed to be very popular during the preview, in my view its a mix of a warior (60%) and ranger (40%)
the only probl;em with it is the forced chain skilles... 1 interupted and youre stuk. but i realy enjoyed using it. |

If you want to coerce people, uninstall Guild Wars pronto.
As stated above, B/P is by far the most efficient way (so far) to clear ToPK, because minions and pets act like tanks, and the dead pets actually are a benefit, allowing Death Nova damage and more minions. If you really want to get in, just grab some friends and form a B/P minus one ranger, or a balanced group. Or, you could Oro farm and use the money from that to buy the axe. |

Well, this isn't what I wanted to hear I won't give up tho... I just fought thru ToPK/Hall of Heroes about 4 times in 'balanced' grps and got as far as the 4th tier. The reason we didn't go farther was because of lack of teamwork not lack of proper skills/professions. It was promising tho and will prolly try to lead/create my own grps in the future.
The reason why I don't go with my guildies is that no one is as far as I am yet (small start up guild). Thanx for all the replies tho, has helped me realize what I'm up against ....I won't give up!! |

You could make a monk, necro, or ranger and farm ToPK till you're blue in the face. FWIW, I think ToPK farming is boring as hell and sucks.

and BTW, just go to ORO, and within 2 hours you will be able to buy 3 victos axes, with some shield, so if youre not BP, you got a long, hard, painful way to go. ps- make sure your eyes dont start bleeding before you get to Darkness with balanced group... good luck |

he didn't ask for sermons saying why tanks suck... nor did he ask for other farming methods... :3
~anyways it is pretty hard to find a group as a tank, i guess if youre lucky a guild group could take you... b/p groups are just really good in tombs is why no one wants them. |

B/P ranger groups just get through Tombs quicker than others (about an hour compared to 1-1/2 to 2 hours). You can do it as a stance tank with a balanced (echo nuker or 2) group -there are a few running around.
I've done it with my guildies when it first went PvE, and it wasn't a whole lot of fun, because it's been my experience as a tank that the whole purpose for being in there was to block baddies from the casters & take a beating. And don't worry about doing a lot of damage, as you're blind for most of the time! |

I myself have a warrior AND a ranger.
Your mad because your tank cant find a group to get into tombs. If your mad because of this, I think you'd need anger managment if you were a ranger. I personally like rangers, but they arent accepted in so many places. Tanks are needed in many places, but tombs is one place that rangers can find a group. |

I have to say, when we did start doing Tombs over the first preview weekend, I was monking and we had a balanced group. It. Took. Forever. And not to mention, the warrior (yes a guildie, I like him so he'll forgive me if I say) whined the entire time because he was blind. Monk has to equip half the skill bar just for condition removal. There are no stances or enchantments which can prevent you from being blind, crippled, bleeding over and over and over again from the monsters' Fingers of Chaos. It drove him crazy, drove me crazy. The axe is very nice. No matter what people say about Tombs nowadays, it is worth having. I'm sure you'll get there someday with a little patience. Or, you could start leveling your monk, necro, or ranger to participate in a b/p group. |

every farming area can be farmed quickly and efficiently with certain builds and this is true too for ToPK where the 8-man Barrage/Pet build is best and tanks are just not part of that equation, being a liability more than an asset. in 5 man Oro and FA groups, rangers are unwelcome since they are not as efficient as the cookie-cutter stance tank + bonder + healer + ss/ss/br + mm build. pity the mesmer farmer imho. however, i am not saying that it cannot be done with builds outside of the box, i am saying though that it just won't be as efficient. Speaking of ranger barrage, pet build wow.
I always went to NUW as a mesmer, monk or necro just doing balanced teams. My ranger has not even reached the desert at the time. We went to NUW on Sunday and did pet barrage and wow, it was too much fun. |
